The price (650) was unbeatable and I'm only projecting on a new wall which is painted with flat ceiling white paint. The fan noise is never even noticed. All in all, if you have the right room, this is an unbelievable value for a Home Theater setup. I bought the HC1600 for my basement media room about 6 months ago and its now become our favorite room in the house. There's a slight trapazoidal effect which has been corrected by the projector controls with no side effects. Amazing.Do it. I have purchased better paint (Home Depot screen Goo imatation) but just haven't gotten around to applying it yet. I'm using Low lamp setting to entend the bulb life.
Just added four leather recliners from ebay for 1400. Our family looks forward to Friday night movies and sports in HD. I bought a Costco Denon receiver (170) 10 inch ebay sub (100), five in wall and in ceiling speakers on ebay (100, up-converting DVD player (25).Total expenditure - about $1100. The image is a 110 inch diagonal "screen" about 16 feet from the ceiling mounted projector. My room is very dark, only one small window, but even with the lights dimmed low the image is sharp and clear. Total Home Theater = 2500. you won't regret.
I think that it is a little large, but again, it's all about the cost vs those things. This is a great projector for the money. I looked at many other projectors, but this had the best at its price break. It worked great for my presentation, obviously overkill in regards to resolution, and it worked great on some HD videos. I'm not sure how long the bulb will last, but it works and I'm happy with what it does.
I highly recommend this projector if you go with the above mentioned items. You'll also need about 14 feet to project a 100" diagonal picture (I've gone 106" and it looks great). If you get the HC-Gray screen, and have it properly placed, you will not be disappointed.
I've compared to the top of the line Sony SXRD projectors, and honestly, this one can be just as good with the right screen and proper placement. If you're looking for a great home theater projector, look no further.
You are restricted to either mounting this on the ceiling (most practical) or putting it on a shelf/table near the floor. Get yourself a High-Contrast Gray Screen, THIS IS A MUST.
The black level on this projector is it's only downfall, but with the enormous amount of lumens this projector has, you can use a gray screen to absorb some of that light and produce a truly amazing picture with fairly deep black level.Besides black level, placement can be difficult with this projector. Colors look great (with some tweaking in the menu) and sharpness is remarkable.
It is very quiet too.
highly pleased for the $700 price. skin color and tones look amazing.
black level performance isn't stellar, but sufficient. out of the box color needed some adjustment, but overall can be set very true.
motion is excellent. that is, deep black comes across as very dark and deep gray.
despite the slow 2x color wheel, i have not noticed rainbow effects. picture is sharp.
used the projector about 500 hours now.
Great machine, reasonable on the noise, you can hardly tell it's on. Decent setup, I think the manual could do a little better. My condo has a lot of light and I'm running on medium bulb power I haven't needed the full power at all. This is my second one in a year, the other one sold with my house.
